6:15pm

Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock and Roll

(105 min.) Mississippi premiere. A roots music documentary set in another "Deep South" — a half a world away. During the 60’s and early 70’s as the war in Vietnam threatened its borders, a new music scene emerged in Cambodia that took Western rock ‘n roll and stood it on its head – creating a sound like no other. But as Cambodian society — young creative musicians in particular — embraced western culture and flourished under its influence, the rest of the country was rapidly moving to war. After taking over the country in April 1975, the Khmer Rouge began wiping out all traces of modernity and Western influence. Intellectuals, artists and musicians were specifically and systematically targeted and eliminated. Thus began one of the most brutal genocides in history, killing an estimated two million people. Directed by John Pirozzi. www.dtifcambodia.com/#!trailer/c1t44

JUKE JOINT AND EVENT DIRECTIONS:

- PO MONKEY'S LOUNGE, NEAR MERIGOLD, MS: From Clarksdale, take Hwy 61 South 30 miles to Pemble Road and turn RIGHT. Note that the green Pemble Road street sign is missing, so look for Dollar General on left side of highway and a brown "Blues Trail" sign on right as well as as a "Pemble Farms" sign in field at turn-off. [If you miss the turn off and get to LEFThand "Merigold" exit, you've gone too far. In that case, turn around and take what will then be your SECOND left. Then...]. After making turn onto Pemble Road, take immediate left fork in the road which is gravel. [That's Po Monkey Road, but that sign is also missing!] The juke is approx. 1 1/4 mile down on left. 662-748-2254 or 662-514-7488.

- OTHA TURNER MEMORIAL PICNIC, SENATOBIA, MS: Get off of I-55 on the Senatobia exit and turn away from town down Highway 4. Go approximately three Miles down that road to Gravel Springs Road (the second road to the right on 4 from Senatobia). Turn right on Gravel Springs Road. Go to the second 4-way stop and turn left (that road is OB McClinton Road) Follow that road about a half mile and the Turner's Picnic is on the right there will be lots of cars & people gathered there. Park along the side of the road. -- Directions courtesy Blues Mother Tupelo.
